| Message from the President-February |
Our February meeting welcomed three new members: Shop owners Ginny Berger, Cheryl Brown and Priscilla Ryan. If you have not yet renewed your membership, please make sure you do so to insure continued membership and receipt of our notices.
We have added another charity to our quilt donation list, the Fannin Women's Center. We will be donating baby quilts to new mothers. Since July of 2004 we have donated a total of 122 quilts to DFACS, Hospice, Heritage Nursing Home and Fannin Senior Center. In 2006 we donated 34 bears and quilts for the Empty Stocking and 16 pillow cases. This is quite an accomplishment and we plan on keeping up the good work. Darlene has once again generously offered her home for a stitch-in on March 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Don't forget to bring a favorite covered dish to share, too. We can't quilt without food! We will work on charity quilt tops as well as post cards for our troops. Linda stated that they will need blank Mother's Day theme post cards to send to the hospitals so the soldier can add their own message and send them to Mom.
To allow our "out of towners" to return, we are planning to start our Round Robin project in April. The starter block can be anything up to 12" finished size. We already have quite a few signed up. Dottie is doing the groupings, so if you want to participate and have not yet signed up, please email me so I can forward your name to Dottie as she does not have email.
Our 2nd annual quilt retreat is "full steam ahead". We will be returning to The Center at Rose Creek. Registration forms and the retreat agenda were distributed at the meeting and we are now accepting $50 deposits. The registration forms will be available on line at our web site www.piecefulmountainquilters.com If you are planning to attend, make sure you get your deposit in. The cutoff number is 35 people.
The next meeting will be March 8 at United Community Bank. Diane Head and Cara Busch will provide refreshments. Thanks to Diane Simonsen and Barbara Southmayd for setting such a beautiful Valentine table and the yummy treats this month. Please mark your calendars - the bank meeting room is not available on our regularly scheduled date in April, so the meeting is rescheduled to Thursday, April 5th.
Linda Daughtry showed us a new way to prepare pieces for applique using dryer sheets. We all went home with a little red heart ready to applique!
Just a reminder: If you have any quilting items (magazines, notions, etc.) you no longer need and want to sell or give away, bring them to the meetings. There is always someone interested. Also, look for some door prizes at future meetings.
Dottie won the Valentine blotto blocks this month. Next month's block is Wee Scottie. Check our web site for details and instructions.

Tip of the Month
Thanks to Cathy for this quilting hint:
Use a shallow, opaque plastic storage tub for a quick, portable light table. Place and under-the- cupboard switch-on fluorescent light under the inverted tub and begin tracing.
Do you have a quilting tip you'd like to share? Email the webmaster for inclusion. |
